Zenato Valpolicella Ripassa 2020
Blend: 85% Corvina Veronese, 5% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone
This wine is a prime example of the "Ripasso" method, a traditional technique from the Veneto region of Italy that gives wines from the Valpolicella area extra richness and complexity. Zenato is a highly respected producer known for mastering this technique.
Zenato Valpolicella Ripassa 2020
Rich and harmonious expression, offering a bridge between a traditional Valpolicella and the more powerful Amarone, thanks to the unique Ripasso method.
Nose: The aromatics are intense and elegant. Expect prominent notes of bright red-fruit preserves, such as Amarena cherry and dark plum, complemented by wild berries. As it opens, layers of savory complexity emerge, including roasted coffee notes, delicate shavings of chocolate, hints of licorice root, violet, and clove. Some descriptions also note cured tobacco and a subtle herbal complexity like tea leaf.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and assertive, yet smooth and velvety texture. The ripe dark fruit flavors of dark cherry, plum, and a touch of kirsch are prominent. This richness is beautifully balanced by refined, well-knit tannins that glide across the tongue, providing structure without being harsh, and a bright acidity that keeps the wine fresh and lively. It's often praised for its "power and polish."
Finish: The finish is long, persistent, and satisfying, with the rich dark fruit, savory spice notes, and a hint of licorice lingering. It leaves a well-balanced and memorable impression, inviting another sip.
Pairing
Grilled or Roasted Red Meats: Steaks (ribeye, sirloin), lamb chops, or a slow-roasted beef.
Roast Pork: Especially richer cuts or those with savory seasonings.
Game Dishes: Venison, wild boar ragu, duck breast.
Lasagna: Its layers of meat, pasta, and cheese are well-matched.
Mushroom Risotto: The earthy notes complement the wine's depth.
Aged Pecorino, Provolone, or Gouda: Their savory and nutty flavors complement the wine's richness.

History
The story of Zenato is the story of a family that firmly planted its roots in the land. It was made possible thanks to the passion and entrepreneurial vision of the estate’s founder, Sergio, who managed to fulfill his greatest dream: to create a winery capable of harvesting the fruits of the earth and transform them into emotions with matchless flavor. Today, more than 60 years later, the results are testament to his extraordinary vision. A wonderful story took shape thanks to his vision and today its star is his family: Wife Carla and children Alberto and Nadia. Their eyes and their heart continue down the path that Sergio laid out with great clarity as he steadied the course toward quality and love for their land. Over time, that land wasn’t just Lugana but also Valpolicella, with its celebrated red wines and their matchless aromas.
Deep ruby-red in color, this wine shows intense aromas of blackberries and black currants underscored by aromas of spice pepper, and a hint of leather. On the palate, it is smooth and viscous with well-balanced acidity and alcohol.
