The 2011 Chardonnay North Slope is one of the most reticent wines in this lineup. There is quite a bit of density and richness in the fruit, but the wine still needs another 6-12 months to come together, which is not unusual for Hansel's Chardonnays. Today, the North Slope is mostly about potential, and there certainly seems to be plenty of that here.
Light yellow-gold. Ripe pear, Meyer lemon and honey on the perfumed nose. Shows very good depth and breadth, with a spicy quality lifting the pliant orchard fruit flavors and a touch of vanilla adding complexity. Smooth and seamless on the finish, which leaves sexy floral, oak spice and poached pear notes behind. Very approachable chardonnay with the richness to handle full-flavored foods.
