RouteStock Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2023
The wine has a beautiful vibrant red color, and a deep brooding aroma reminiscent of dried herbs, toasted hazelnuts, and blood orange peel. The flavors are bright from acidity, and deep from concentration at the same time having flavors of shiitake mushrooms, bay laurel, lavender, and cooked red and blackberries. The wine is amazingly complex, bright, rich, and inviting.
Nose: The bouquet opens with lifted notes of cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, accented by coastal herbs and a whisper of sea spray. Undertones of sandalwood, baking spice, and subtle vanilla provide richness without overwhelming the fruit.
Palate: Medium-bodied and vibrant, the palate showcases a balance of red and black fruits—cranberry, black cherry, and plum—woven together with earthy undertones of shiitake mushroom and fresh thyme. A lively acidity drives freshness, while silky tannins give structure and length. Oak is well-integrated, lending gentle warmth and spice without masking the wine’s coastal purity.
Finish: The finish is long and harmonious, leaving echoes of red cherry, spice, and mineral-driven brightness that reflect the Sonoma Coast terroir.
Rated 92-Points by Tasting Panel
"Savory notes of tilled earth and loam are perked up with a punch of red-cherry acidity and crunchy minerality. A very appealing umami core provides the spine against which brambly berries and cherries sing with woodsy spice. This widely available Pinot punches way above the weight its price tag might imply."
Pairing
Seared Duck Breast: The wine’s cherry and spice notes match beautifully with the richness of duck.
Grilled Salmon: Its bright acidity complements fatty fish while enhancing the smokiness.
Herb-Crusted Pork Loin: Savory herb tones in the wine resonate with roasted flavors.
Wild Mushroom Risotto: Earthy umami and creamy textures mirror the wine’s depth.
Soft Cheeses: Brie or Camembert highlight the wine’s creamy texture and fruit purity.
Climate
Sonoma Coast’s cool, maritime climate is shaped by Pacific Ocean breezes and morning fog, which temper the sun and allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly. This extended growing season enhances flavor concentration while preserving natural acidity. Well-drained soils of sandstone and shale provide a mineral backbone, lending finesse and elegance to the finished wine.
