La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva 2020
Characterized by a long growing cycle and perfect phenolic ripening. It produced wines with great aromatic intensity and fruit concentration, well-balanced between alcohol and acidity, and highly suitable for long aging.
100% Tempranillo from our own vineyards in Rodezno and Labastoda, with an average vine age of 40 years.
Nose: The aromas are beautifully evolved and complex. I detect a core of bright red cherry, raspberry, and dried cranberry. These primary fruits are gracefully intermingled with classicsavory notes of vanilla, cedar, tobacco leaf, and worn leather. Subtle hints of sweet spice, clove, and cinnamon.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a silky, refined texture. The flavors of ripe red fruit anddried fig are pure and focused, supported by a gentle, savory spice. It isa dry wine with soft, integrated tannins and a refreshing medium+acidity, which is the hallmark of traditional Rioja and makes it incrediblyfood-friendly. The wine shows exceptional balance and grace.
Finish: The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with the classic vanilla, spice, and dried cherry notes lingering beautifully.
Pairing
Lamb: Roasted lamb shoulder or chops. The wine's savory notes pair perfectly.
Ibérico Ham and Cured Meats: The savory complexity complements the saltiness and richness.
Paella: With chicken, pork, or chorizo.
Tapas: Especially dishes with mushrooms, peppers, or paprika.
Rated 91-Points Wine Spectator
Hints of tobacco, smoke and vanilla are a fragrant thread winding through the baked cherry and raspberry fruit, cocoa powder and red licorice notes on display in this lively, harmonious, focused red. Fine, crisp tannins firm the finish.
Rated 93-Points James Suckling
A classical, typical Rioja Alta red with elegant notes of vanilla, coconut, smoked spices and strawberries. Refined and suave, with fine tannins and a long, creamy finish. Juicy and elegant. Really approachable now, but give it two more years to get more mushroom complexity.
History
Five Riojan and Basque families founded the "Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta" in Haro's Station District. Our first president was a woman: Doña Saturnina García Cid y Gárate. Monsieur Vigier, a Frenchman, was the House's first winemaker and the Reserva 1890 (predecessor of today's Gran Reserva 890) is the first wine he made.
In 2025, Drinks International ranks us as the third most admired winery in the world.
