Dusoil Lodi Chardonnay 2023
Nose: On the nose, aromas of Meyer lemon and juicy yellow grapefruit. There's a lovely undercurrent of ripe pear and a touch of white peach. Very subtle hints of vanilla bean, but it's not overpowering. A delicate floral note, reminiscent of honeysuckle, adds another layer of complexity.
Palate: On the palate, the wine feels medium-bodied with a refreshing and zesty acidity that makes it quite lively. The citrus notes from the nose are prominent, with a distinct lemon-lime character. Ripe pear comes through, adding a touch of sweetness that is well-balanced by the acidity. The subtle oak influence contributes a pleasant creaminess to the texture and a hint of spice, like a whisper of nutmeg.
Finish: The finish is clean and lingers nicely with the bright citrus notes persisting. Subtle minerality adds a refreshing quality. The touch of vanilla from the oak reappears gently at the very end, leaving a pleasant and harmonious impression.
Pairing
Grilled Chicken or Fish with Lemon: The bright citrus notes and refreshing acidity of the Chardonnay would beautifully complement grilled chicken or flaky white fish, especially if finished with a squeeze of lemon. I think it would cut through any richness and enhance the fresh flavors.
Shellfish: An excellent match for various types of shellfish, such as shrimp scampi, steamed mussels, or even oysters on the half shell. The crisp acidity would cleanse the palate, and the fruit notes would complement the delicate flavors of the seafood.
Soft Cheeses: I would consider pairing this Chardonnay with soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese. The wine's acidity would cut through the creaminess of the cheese, and the fruit notes would offer a pleasant contrast.
Lightly Spiced Asian Cuisine: Dishes with mild spices and coconut milk, such as Thai green curry with chicken or a mild Indian korma, could also work well. The wine's fruitiness and subtle sweetness (if present) could balance the spice, and the acidity would provide a refreshing lift.
