Clos De Tafall Priorat Grenache 2022
A bold and expressive representation of Priorat Grenache, showcasing a harmonious blend of concentrated red fruit, savory minerality, and a powerful, yet elegant, structure.
Nose: The aromatics are intense and layered. Notes of ripe red fruits, particularly red cherry and raspberry, and a hint of dark plum. The Grenache's fruit is beautifully complemented by the unique terroir, which imparts an unmistakable mineral aroma of crushed slate or "licorella," along with wild herbs (garrigue) and a touch of baking spice. I find subtle hints of vanilla and toasted oak as well.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and robust, with a rich, concentrated texture. The red fruit flavors from the nose are front and center, supported by a distinct minerality that adds a savory complexity. It is a dry wine with firm, yet velvety tannins that provide structure and a long, satisfying grip. The acidity is balanced and helps to keep the wine fresh and vibrant despite its power. I notice a powerful "concentration on the mid-palate" that fills the mouth.
Finish: The finish is long, dry, and resonant. The lingering notes of red fruit, mineral, and a hint of spice make for a memorable conclusion.

Grilled Steak: Ribeye or sirloin, especially with a savory rub or sauce.
Braised Beef: Short ribs or oxtail in a rich, herbed sauce.
Jamón Ibérico and Aged Cheeses: The wine's fruit and savory notes complement the saltiness of cured meats and the nuttiness of cheeses like Manchego.
Paella with Meat: Paella with rabbit, pork, or chorizo.
Rich Tapas: Chorizo, grilled meats, and dishes with smoky paprika.
