Tomas Esteban cultivates seventy-five hectares of vines, divided into twenty different parcels throughout the Roa region of the Ribera del Duero. The vines which produce Valderiz lie in an ancient riverbed where the River Duero flowed until Mother Nature decided to change its path. The name of this parcel is Juegabolos. It is a field 5m deep with the large round rocks which are unique only to this parcel. It would remind you of Chateuneuf de Pape. Valderiz is silky and elegant with great structure. Rich, luscious, dark. Both in the nose and mouth, with chocolate tones, stewed cherries, ripe blackberries, and minerality. The oak is very well-integrated and adds some toasty smoke and spice.--Winemakers Note
Organically grown and fermented gently with indigenous yeast. Robust blue fruit on the nose. Plums, vanilla and spice on the palate. Full bodied and balanced.
Blend: 95% Tinta del país, 5% Albillo
A harmonious red that marries power with finely detailed grace, showing a dense core of tannins tightly meshed with flavors of ripe black currant, fig cake, wild sage and mocha that slowly unfurl on the palate. Sleek and silky in texture, with a firm and lingering, well-spiced finish.
A tight and full-bodied Ribera del Duero, underscored by the quality and quantity of the tannins. Cocoa powder, stones and blackberries here, with a big mouthful of creamy, satin-like tannins interwoven with the fruit. Long and impressive. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
