Substance Pinot Noir 2019
Fairy dust minerality lifts from the glass, cloaked in wild strawberry, hibiscus, and oyster mushroom, as a lavish palate of rose petal, red cherry, orange zest and potting soil set this elegant table. Fresh, expansive, and long – pure Pinot magic!
Medium-bodied wine with flavors of red fruit, earth, and spice. It has a soft texture and a long finish. The wine is best enjoyed with food, such as roasted chicken, salmon, or pasta dishes.
Notes
Substance Pinot Noir by Charles Smith is a wine that is made with grapes from the Evergreen Vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA of Washington State. The vineyard is located at an elevation of 1,200 feet above sea level and is planted to Pinot Noir vines that are over 20 years old. The grapes are hand-picked and then fermented in small batches using traditional winemaking techniques. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and is then bottled unfiltered and unfined.
Nose: Red fruit
Palate: Earth, spice
Finish: Silky Smooth, Lingering finish.
Rated 90-Points James Suckling
A pretty pinot with sour cherries, strawberries and a fine herbal edge. Juicy, medium-bodied palate delivers some light cherry and red berries on the palate. Crunchy and concise with lots of fruit at the end.
Rated 90-Points Vinous
The 2021 Pinot Noir is spicy and earthy in the glass, reminding me more of food than wine, with notes of savory herbs, tomato leaf and cherry sauce forming its bouquet. This is round and pliant on the palate with ripe red and black fruits that soothe, as sweet inner herbal tones form toward the close. It leaves a pleasant staining of round tannins, as rosy inner florals slowly fade. This is a unique style of Pinot Noir from Washington state, but one that's very easy to like.
Pairing
Appetizers: Charcuterie, cheese, roasted vegetables Main courses: Roasted chicken, salmon, pork, duck, pasta dishes Desserts: Chocolate cake, fruit tart, crème brûlée.
