Librandi Duca San Felice Ciro Rosso Riserva Calabria

Vintage: 2008
Librandi is located in Ciro Marina, a small town in the southern Italian region of Calabria (Italy's boot tip), on the splendid Ionian coastline. The soil in this area is naturally suited for grape growing, and the geographic position, located between the sea and the Sila Mountains, guarantees an excellent balance between day and nightime temperatures.

Duca San Felice is the name of the oldest vineyard owned by the Librandi family and the last one planted by Raffaele Librandi, the father of Antonio and Nicodemo. This vineyard is situated in the heart of the Ponta territory, which is considered one of the oldest and most important crus of the classic Ciro area. Made entirely from Gaglioppo, a key indigenous variety that is thought to have been introduced from Greece to Southern Italy approximately around the same time as the Aglianico vine.

Ruby red in color, this wine offers rich aromas of Mediterranean fruits such as figs and dates, sour cherry, and tobacco, followed by hints of chocolate. Spicy flavors come through on the palate and balanced tannins lend potential for aging. Substantial and well structured, Duca San Felice is best enjoyed with game, roasted meats, pot roast, dishes with spicy sauces, veal and aged cheeses.--Winemaker Notes
