Since the early 19th century, the name Paul Jaboulet Aine has been eponymous with quality in the Rhone. Today, there is a renewed sense of energy and purpose. Impressive holdings are among the largest in the Rhone, spanning nearly all great appellations: Condrieu, Cornas, Cote-Rotie, St. Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage. Recent purchases include Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Crozes-Hermitage and Cote-Rotie vineyards. Winemaking stresses severe selection, dramatically lower yields, long and steady fermentations and aging in newer barrels. The wines are rich and dense, with remarkable balance and finesse: Rhone grapes in full song. This wine is named for the 45th North parallel which runs two kilometers from Jaboulet's cellars. This wine has a deep color, with elegant and expressive aromas of red fruits and spices. On the palate, the wine has a solid structure, ripe tannins and a spicy character.--Winemakers Note
Very pure and fresh, with purple and blue fruits leading the way, followed by notes of tar, violet and mineral. Open-knit, but has some grip. Delicious. Solid, with fresh plum, violet and grilled herb notes, all backed by an iron-tinged finish. --Wine Spectator
