2011 WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100 #28!!!
We source these Sauvignon Blanc grapes from a small collection of excellent properties throughout Russian River Valley. The enduring foundation for this wine since its inception in 2001 has been Dutton-Cohen. Located above Occidental, it was established some thirty years ago and is farmed with care by Joe and Steve Dutton. The blend is now supplemented by the new Dutton-Jewell Ranch in Green Valley. The Dutton family planted this exclusively for us in 2005, to the Sauvignon Musque clone. Other contributors are Crinella and La Rochelle vineyards on the Santa Rosa Plain and our own Cresta d'Oro in the Sebastopol Hills area. This wine allures the senses with an appealing aroma that is both sophisticated and complex. Tempting layers unfold as rich honey dew melon, fragrant lemon blossom and a hint of tropical lychee fruit. A suggestion of dried wildflowers and ripe guava adds more charming elements. The inherent mouthwatering character of the Musque clone has been enhanced by our dedicated program of intense batonnage. One hundred percent barrel fermented in French oak, eighteen percent new, this compelling Sauvignon Blanc shows a generous richness on the palate unusual for the varietal.--Winemakers Note
