Mendocino Summer Ale, A review |
|
Mendocino Summer Ale is a Belgian Style White Ale or Whitbier. It is made with malted barley, unmalted wheat, hops, yeast and spices. Whitbiers get their name from their cloudy, white appearence which is caused by the presence of large amouts of yeast which remain in the unfiltered beer. Where many Summer beers place maximum emphasis on smoothness and drinkability, sometimes at the expence of flavor, Mendocino Summer Ale strikes a nice balance. When poured into a glass, the yeast is immediately noticable, the beer is so cloudy that it is more translucent than transparent. The beer is an extremely pale straw color with little head. Dispite this, the beer is highly carbonated, and the effervessence contributes to its slightly sour, refreshing nature. The flavor combines clove, banana and astringent flavors from the Belgian ale yeast with flavors of corriander, lemon and bitter orange and other spices which have been added to this brew. Mendocino Summer Ale is a tasty and refreshing brew that is well worth a try. From mendobrew.com: Date of Introduction: May 1, 2007 Style: Handcrafted American Wheat Beer Alc/Vol: 4.75% ![]() |
