Michel Chapoutier's outpost in the Roussillon is worthy of a detour. The Cotes du Roussillon Occultum Lapidem is a beautiful wine with loads of chocolatey, black cherry, and cassis fruit intermixed with licorice, pepper, and garrigue. Provencal, with medium to full body, a dense richness to the fruit, and a long heady finish, it should be drunk over the next 7-8 years.--Robert Parker
The wines in M. Chapoutier's portfolio AOC Cotes du Roussillon Villages comes from the domaine Bila Haut which is situated in the commune of Latour-de-France. Three grape varieties are grown in the domaine: Grenache and Carignan, known for their ripe fruit characteristics and warmth- the style of the AOC- Syrah, known for its structure and wild spice driven finish. The parcels of Occultum Lapidem are situated on Vallee de l'Agly.--Winemaker Notes. A muscular red, with concentrated flavors of dark cherry, plum, raspberry tart and grilled fig. The dense finish of dark chocolate is firm and focused, with smoky notes. Best from 2010 through 2014.--Wine Spectator #75 in Top 100 2009!
